How TRICARE covers ABA: the basics

​

We're a TRICARE-authorized ABA provider, and TRICARE is the insurance we work with most. TRICARE covers applied behavior analysis for eligible children with an autism diagnosis through its Autism Care Demonstration. In general, your child needs a diagnosis from a TRICARE-approved provider, a referral, and pre-authorization before ABA services begin. If your sponsor is active duty, your child must also be enrolled in your branch's Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) and TRICARE's Extended Care Health Option (ECHO). Authorizations are issued in six-month periods, and a new referral is required every two years. TRICARE rules change, so please confirm current requirements at tricare.mil or with your regional contractor.​
